* 3 cups all-purpose flour * 1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F) * 1 teaspoon sugar * 2 teaspoons salt * 1 tablespoon instant yeast * 4 cloves garlic, minced * 2 tablespoons mixed fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, and parsley) * 1 tablespoon olive oil
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. 2. Add the flour, salt, minced garlic, and mixed herbs to the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms. 3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. 4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size. 5. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). 6. Gently punch down the dough and shape it into a round loaf. Place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. 7. Cover the loaf with a kitchen towel and let it rise for another 30 minutes. 8. Just before baking, make a few shallow slashes on the top of the loaf with a sharp knife. Brush the top with olive oil. 9. Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. 10. Remove from the oven, let cool on a wire rack before slicing, and enjoy.
